US: The Port of Long Beach authority has published a final study on a proposal to demolish Gold Bond Building Products’ Long Beach gypsum wallboard plant at the port in Florida. The report concluded that the demolition could have ‘less-than-significant’ impacts on the environment. Construction & Demolition Recycling News has reported that Gold Bond Building Products' lease for the site ended in November 2024. As a result, the company must now return it to a condition ‘equivalent to or better than’ that at the start of its lease. The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners will discuss the outcomes on 12 January 2026.


World: The Business Research Company has forecast that the global synthetic gypsum market will be worth US$2.32bn in 2029, up at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7% from 2024 levels. The research company attributed the anticipated growth to the development of alternative cement binders and new flue gas desulphurisation technologies.


India/Oman: The governments of India and Oman signed a free trade agreement on 18 December 2025. Swarajya News has reported that India imported US$6.6bn-worth of goods from Oman in 2024, including US$138m of gypsum, formerly subject to anti-dumping measures. Meanwhile, the deal will remove tariffs on US$3bn-worth (84%) of Indian exports to Oman, currently subject to an average duty of 5%.


Austria: Rail Cargo Group has launched a new service to transport recycled gypsum from Saint-Gobain joint venture GzG Gipsrecycling's gypsum recycling plant in Stockerau, Lower Austria, up to Saint-Gobain's gypsum wallboard plant in Bad Aussee, Styria. Saint-Gobain plans to begin using up to 40% recycled gypsum in its operations at the plant. The partners describe the service as creating Austria's first end-to-end circular gypsum supply chain. RailFreight News has reported that Austria's upcoming landfill ban for gypsum will enter force on 1 January 2026.

GzG opened its Stockerau plant, including a dedicated rail siding, in late October 2024.


Kyrgyzstan: A new 10Mm²/yr gypsum wallboard plant has launched in Dostuk, Jalal-Abad. The plant additionally commands 60,000t/yr of plaster production capacity. It cost a total of US$11.7m and has created 80 new jobs.

24.kg News has reported that the Dostuk plant is intended to reduce import dependence. Kyrgyzstan imported 8.5Mm² of gypsum wallboard in the first nine months of 2025.

Cabinet Chair and Chief of Staff Adylbek Kasymaliev said "According to the results of the first 10 months of this year, construction materials production exceeded US$572m, 8% of industrial production. The industrial sector is demonstrating steady positive growth, which is impacting overall macroeconomic indicators. Under these conditions, the opening of a new plant is of strategic importance."


Germany: Kamal Ghezelbash has retired from Claudius Peters. His most recent position was as Senior Sales Manager Gypsum, a role he has held since 2015. He started working for the company in 2007 as Sales Manager Gypsum before later becoming Territory Sales Manager. Earlier in his career he held sales roles with Schleuter Maschinen and Rovema Packaging Machines, and a Project Manager position with Nordson. Ghezelbash is an engineering graduate from the University of Flensburg.


India: Knauf India has commissioned a new metal profiles line at its Khushkhera gypsum wallboard plant in Rajasthan. The line features sensor-based inspection systems, precision roll tooling and real-time quality control. It doubles the Khushkhera plant’s metal profiles capacity.


Brazil: France-based Saint-Gobain has sold building materials retail chain Tumelero to holding company GG10. Tumelero operates 16 outlets and a distribution facility in Rio Grande do Sul, with 580 employees and sales of US$46.5m in 2024.

Saint-Gobain retains its Telhanorte retail chain and 58 building materials production facilities in Brazil.


Oman: India-based JSW Infrastructure and Minerals Development Oman (MDO) will build a new US$419m, 27Mt/yr-capacity port in Dhofar Governorate. JSW Infrastructure subsidiary JSW Overseas will acquire a 51% stake in newly incorporated special purpose vehicle South Minerals Port Company for the undertaking.

The projected construction time is 36 months, with commercial operations scheduled to start in early-mid-2029. The Hindu BusinessLine News has reported that the port is intended to help Dhofar Governorate realise its export potential for various minerals, including gypsum.


Spain: Saint-Gobain Spain has launched REcircula, a collection and recycling service for used gypsum wallboard.

Sustainability Manager Alberto García-Blanco said "With REcircula, we take a further step in our commitment: to facilitate the management and valorisation of 70% of our clients' construction waste, accompanying them throughout the entire process, from segregation and collection to the reintegration of these recycled materials into new construction products."


Saudi Arabia: National Gypsum Company has announced the resignation of Mashhoor Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Obaikan from its board of directors. Mist News has reported that the company attributed Al-Obaikan’s decision to ‘personal matters.’


Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan’s gypsum and anhydrite output rose by 14% year-on-year to 502,000t in January to October 2025, according to the State Statistical Committee. Finished product inventory reached 69,800t on 1 November 2025.
