Oman: Saint-Gobain Middle East has signed a framework agreement to develop gypsum mines in Oman, Muscat Daily News has reported. In partnership with mining company Al Fajar Al Alamia, Saint-Gobain will invest in an existing local gypsum company, with backing from the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the initial phase of their collaboration, the partners will aim to export natural gypsum for use as a raw material in Saint-Gobain's regional gypsum products plants. Subsequently, they intend to explore the construction of new gypsum product plants locally. Besides cooperation on quarry management and production, the agreement also covers the exchange of technical expertise.
Saint-Gobain Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa vice-president and Middle East chair Thierry Bernard said "This marks an important step towards direct collaboration with one of Oman's leading mining companies and reinforces our confidence in the sultanate's competitive investment environment and the opportunities it offers."
