British Gypsum enters pallets reuse partnership with The Pallet Loop

12 April 2024

UK: The Pallet Loop has concluded a strategic agreement to provide its pallets collection service for British Gypsum’s UK distribution operations. From May 2024, British Gypsum will deliver bagged plaster using The Pallet Loop’s green pallets. It will subsequently begin to transition its gypsum wallboard distribution to The Pallet Loop pallets from July 2024, resulting in 70% coverage of its entire distribution of products. The subsidiary of Saint-Gobain plans to eventually raise this to 100%.

British Gypsum managing director Dean O’Sullivan said “We are delighted to announce our partnership with The Pallet Loop as we aim to radically cut unnecessary waste. Pallets left behind after products have been removed have for a long time created a challenge, with many being unsustainably disposed of at a heavy environmental cost. By joining forces with The Pallet Loop, we aim to significantly reduce this practice.”

The Pallet Loop managing director Paul Lewis said “At Loop, our mission is to transform the way building materials move and we are incredibly excited that British Gypsum, as a market leader, is partnering with us to promote a culture of pallet reuse. Using our service, merchants, distributors, principal contractors and housebuilding companies will be able to book pallet collections, which can take place from as little as 72 hours later. There will also be a payback of up to €4.69 available for every green coloured pallet they put back in the loop.”

29 September 2023

UK: British Gypsum’s non-loadbearing metal stud plasterboard partition systems, including shaft walls, have become one of the first products on the local market to carry the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) mark. The scheme is intended to provide assurance to end users that the product information for these products is clear, accurate, accessible, up-to-date and unambiguous.

The CCPI was initiated by the Construction Product Association (CPA) as a direct response to Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety set up in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. The CPA is a UK-based construction industry trade association.

British Gypsum switching fleet to biofuel

10 November 2022

UK: British Gypsum has started converting its heavy-good vehicle fleet fuel source to the biofuel Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) from diesel. The subsidiary of France-based Saint-Gobain expects to use 75,000l/week of HVO. This means that around 40% of its UK fleet will now operate on HVO fuel, with a further 10% using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The use of multi-fuelled vehicles at this scale is expected to reduce its carbon emissions by approximately 70% year-on-year.

To support the implementation of HVO vehicles, the company has made several upgrades to site infrastructure that include a HVO refuelling point at its Robertsbridge plant and a new fuel island capable of delivering 110,000l/week at its distribution centre in Gotham.
