Knauf launches Uzbek wallboard courses

Uzbekistan: On 7 July 2018 German wallboard producer Knauf will launch courses in Uzbekistan to teach construction workers how to use dry mixtures and plasterboard. The courses will be held in Knauf’s specialised training centre in the capital Tashkent.

Nezom Saidmakhmutkhujaev, a Knauf representative, will show the audience how to finish walls with plasterboard, build interior partitions, insulate main walls, work with different types of metal profiles, use dry mixes for plastering concrete, brick, cement and expanded polystyrene surfaces and how to avoid common mistakes when using finishing materials.

The courses will be held in an interactive form with the opportunity to ask questions and the opportunity to apply knowledge in practice during demonstrations.

Knauf Gips Bukhara suspends production until March 2018

Uzbekistan: Knauf Gips Bukhara has suspended production of gypsum wallboard at its plant in Bukhara until 1 March 2018 while it builds a new production line. The upgrade is planned to increase the unit’s production capacity by 30%. It was originally scheduled for completion in 2017. Knauf has spent Euro40m on the project.

Knauf to expand production in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan: Knauf is planning to invest Euro40m to expand production of gypsum boards and gypsum-based mortars, Dmitry Deripalko, the director-general of Knauf Gips Bukhara, has said. Knauf operates a gypsum wallboard business and a gypsum-based mortar company in Uzbekistan, according to Uzbekistan Daily.

The gypsum wallboard plant run by Bukharagips will be expanded first with a 30% increase in production capacity to be completed by early 2017. Then a new plant will be built at Knauf Gips Bukhara to increase production of gypsum-based mortars. Deripalko said that the project will be paid for via re-investment. Around Euro10m will be spent on construction and the remaining Euro30m on buying equipment. Kanuf also plans to launch a floor gypsum boards in the country.

Bukharagips produces 25Mm2/yr of gypsum wallboard. Knauf Gips Bukhara produces up to 60,000t/yr of mortars.

Knauf starts US$53m project in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan: Knauf has started a new US$52.5m investment project at two of its plants in Bukhara. The move follows the signing of a new agreement in 2014 by Knauf and Uzstroymateriali JSC to boost economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany.

Knauf has already invested US$51m in Uzbekistan. It has two plants in Bukhara: JV JSC Bukharagips, which produces dry building mixes and Knauf Gips Bukhara, which produces gypsum wallboard. The 60,000t/yr capacity Bukharagips plant started operations in August 2009, while the 20Mm3/yr capacity Knauf Gips Bukhara plant was built in 2011.

Knauf Gips opens consulting centre in Samarkand

Uzbekistan: Knauf has launched a consulting centre at the Samarkand State Architecture and Construction Institute, named after Mirzo Ulugbek, on 4 September 2014 in Samarkand, Samarqand Province. This is Knauf's second consulting centre in Uzbekistan. The first was opened in June 2008 under Tashkent State Architecture and Construction Institute, which has proven its efficiency in training skilled builders.

The centre will provide training to all interested parties on the use of modern construction materials. The training programmes are designed for various groups, including individuals who repair their houses on their own as well as professionals. Each trainee will receive technical documentation, manuals and other literature. Dmitry Deripalko, director general of Knauf Gips Bukhara, underlined that the centre will assist young people and builders to receive theoretical and practical skills.
Knauf purchased 30.8% of state assets in Bukharagips for US$1.55m and invested US$6.3m over a three-year period. Knauf currently holds 98.98% stake in the enterprise, while employees and other shareholders hold 1.02%. The enterprise specialises in the production of dry gypsum mixtures and was founded in 1934. Bukharagips owns a gypsum mine with 45Mt of reserves with 90-100% calcium content, a lime mine with 7.8Mt of reserves and several other mines. Knauf launched production of dry gypsum mixtures in 2009 at the 60,000t capacity Bukharagips plant.

JSC Uzstroymateriali made US$42.9m from exports in the first half of 2014

Uzbekistan: JSC Uzstroymateriali's building materials exports made US$42.9m in the first six months of 2014, which is 15.5% more compared to the same period of 2013. Enterprises of the company have increased their production by 4.5% for the reporting period.

Cement production grew by 4.9%, gypsum by 10.7%, dry construction mixes by 32%, gypsum boards by 2.9% and ceramic tiles by 10.1%. The total amount of capital investments of the largest enterprises of Uzstroymateriali amounted to US$18.3m, a 371% year-on-year increase.

Knauf to invest US$50m in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan: Knauf plans to invest up to US$50m to double its production capacity in Uzbekistan, according to Akbar Muhiddinov, a senior manager of Uzstroymaterialy (Uzbek Construction Materials). Knauf currently produces gypsum wallboard at its 20Mm2/yr Knauf Gips Bukhara plant in the Bukhara region that was built in 2011. Including a gypsum-based mix plant, Knauf has invested more than US$51m in the region.

Uzbek gypsum producer's loss magnified

Uzbekistan: Dry gypsum mixture producer Bukharagips JV OJSC has released its financial results for the 2011 calendar year, which show a net loss of US$1.0m in 2011 against a loss of US$0.3m in 2010.

The company decreased production of construction-grade gypsum by 39.6% from 14,027t in 2010 to 11,373t in 2011. The enterprise increased production of crushed stone gypsum by 8.2% to 208,180t. Production of dry construction mixtures rose by 156.3% from 5240t in 2010 to 13,428t in 2011.

The company's net revenue came to US$3.7m in 2011 against US$2.6m in 2010. Its expenses grew from US$1.8m in 2010 to US$2.92m in 2011.

Knauf Gips opens Kagan plant

Uzbekistan: Germany's Knauf International GmbH has opened its gypsum wallboard plant in Kagan, Uzbekistan. The project, which is run by Knauf Gips Bukhara, was built at a cost of around USD51.1m. Construction started in 2008 and was completed in June 2011. To date, the company has been operating the 20MM2/yr plant in test mode. The project is the second by Knauf in Uzbekistan.

New Knauf plant opens

Uzbekistan: Germany's Knauf International GmbH (Knauf) has completed the construction of a 20MM2/yr wallboard production plant in Uzbekistan. The project, worth US$48m, was funded through a direct investment from Knauf. The contractor for the construction project was German Samo Engineering.

KnaufGipsBuhara, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Knauf International GmbH, will manage the plant. Following the full commissioning of the new production facilities, the wallboard production capacity in Uzbekistan will be doubled to 40MM2/yr, with demand closer to 60MM2/yr.
