Indian anti-dumping measures against Chinese and Omani gypsum wallboard to remain in force until end of 2028

Asia: India’s new anti-dumping duty on imports of gypsum wallboard from China and Oman will remain in force for the five-year period up to the end of 2028. The Hitavada newspaper has reported that the duty also applies to gypsum tiles.

UAE: The wallboard recycling unit at Saint-Gobain Gyproc’s Abu Dhabi gypsum wallboard plant has processed 22,000t of gypsum since 2014, the L'Usine Nouvelle newspaper has reported. The producer said that the Abu Dhabi plant can incorporate 10 – 12% recycled materials in its gypsum wallboard production. It runs on a diversified energy supply, which in its most recent recorded month included 55% nuclear, 38% natural gas and 7% solar energy.
In 2023, Saint-Gobain reduced its non-recycled waste by 78% year-on-year and its water footprint by 14% from 2017 levels in the UAE.
Oman’s exports of gypsum rise in 2023

Oman: Oman exported 11.2Mt of natural gypsum from its Port of Salalah in 2023, up by 11% year-on-year from 9.9Mt in 2022. Zawawi Minerals has reported that the main destination for exports was India, which received 5.3Mt (47%) of Oman’s exported gypsum for the year. Oman is reportedly the source of 90% of India’s gypsum imports.
Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund acquires 23% stake in Mepco

Saudi Arabia: The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) has completed its acquisition of a 23% stake in paper products company Mepco. TradeArabia News has reported that the PIF aims to enable Mepco to expand production, increase efficiency and become more sustainable.
Mepco CEO Sami Al Safran said “PIF's investment further enables the implementation of our expansion strategy and captures significant growth potential, both locally and regionally. This will help create new opportunities, as Mepco continues its journey to become a national champion in our industry. Tajik government inaugurates Khatlon gypsum wallboard plant

Tajikistan: The government has inaugurated the new 30Mm2/yr Khatlon gypsum wallboard plant at Yavan. Central Asia Economic Outlook News has reported that the plant produces four different specifications of gypsum wallboard, as well as ceiling tiles and metal profiles and supports.
