Saint-Gobain’s sales rise by 6% to Euro10.4bn in first quarter

France: Saint-Gobain’s sales rose by 6% year-on-year to Euro10.4bn in the first quarter of 2019 from Euro9.76bn in the same period in 2018. Sales for most of the group’s divisions rose with the exception of Asia-Pacific. Gypsum business growth was reported in Northern Europe, South Europe – Middle East & Africa and Asia Pacific. Like-for-like sale in Asia Pacific were supported by the start-up of a fifth float line in India. Insulation business growth was also noted in France.
GMS appoints Teri McClure to the board of directors

US: Gypsum products distributor GMS has appointed Teri P McClure as an independent member of its board of directors. McClure is currently Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Vice President, Labor at United Parcel Service (UPS). She is also a member of the Management Committee, which is responsible for setting strategy, profit and operating plans for UPS.
McClure joined UPS in 1995 and has served in various legal and operations positions, including Senior Vice President of Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from 2006 until assuming her current position in 2015. Prior to joining UPS, McClure practiced law with the Troutman Sanders law firm in Atlanta. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Lennar Corporation, Heart for Africa and The Task Force for Global Health.
Knauf completes acquisition of USG

US: Germany’s Knauf has completed its acquisition of USG. The company said that the purchase would create, “a global building materials industry leader that will be even better positioned to meet customers' needs by leveraging two highly complementary businesses, product portfolios and global footprints.”
"We greatly admire USG's strong brands, leading market positions in North American wallboard and ceilings, and highly talented employee base,” said Alexander Knauf, General Partner of Knauf. He added that the transaction was the largest acquisition in Knauf’s history.
Knauf agreed to buy USG in mid-2018 for US$7bn. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has approved the deal in late March 2019 subject to asset divestments relating to its Boral-USG joint venture.
CSR Gyprock agrees gas deal with Senex Energy

Australia: Senex Energy has agreed a deal with CSR Gyprock to supply natural gas to its gypsum wallboard plant at Coopers Plains in Queensland. The agreement also covers gas supplies to CSR’s brick and insulation plants in the state. Under the initial three-year agreement, Senex will supply CSR Building Products, a subsidiary of CSR, with 0.65PJ/yr of gas, starting on 1 January 2020. CSR can extend the agreement by up to a further two years, taking the total contract quantity to 3.25PJ. Gas will be supplied at the Wallumbilla Gas Hub in Queensland at a fixed price in line with current market levels, indexed annually.
Saint-Gobain buys Knauf Mexico

Mexico: Saint-Gobain has completed the acquisition of Knauf Mexico for an undisclosed sum. Knauf operates a 26Mm2 gypsum wallboard plant at Queretaro that it purchased from PPG in 2017.
